We are pleased to congratulate cfaed Strategic Professor Xinliang Feng (Chair for Molecular Functional Materials) for being selected as one of two winners receiving the 2017 Small Young Innovator Award. Prof. Feng was distinguished for his significant contributions to 2D nanomaterials research. The inauguration ceremony took place on May 16 during the "Small Science Symposium" in Hong Kong, co-organized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Baptist University, and Wiley. The award is endowed with a certificate and a USD 1,000 purse.
The Small Young Innovator Award recognizes outstanding, interdisciplinary scientific work in the development and fundamental understanding of nanoscience and nanotechnology by a young scientist or engineer. The award winner must also show exceptional promise as a developing leader in the areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology.

TUD's Freigeist group from Physical Chemistry and the cfaed Biological Algorithms Group are jointly organizing a summer school on microswimmers in 2017. This summer school will be devoted to an active exchange of knowledge in the area of fabrication, observation, manipulation, simulation and application of different kinds of microswimmers. This will include an unusual format combining lab trainings and theoretical fundamentals. In fact, this will be the first international summer school on the emerging field of microswimmers that combines hands-on practical education in the lab with theory lectures on motion at the microscale. This format will benefit interdisciplinary researchers and enhance communication skills across disciplines. The summer school will take place from 13-19 August 2017 in Dresden. More details available here.
